Over the course of his 50-year career since 1969, the emeritus professor from <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/durp\/\">Department of Urban and Regional Planning<\/a> (<abbr>DURP<\/abbr>) has amassed a collection which he is donating and is making available for scholarly research at the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/library\/research\/collections\/archives\/university-archives\/\"><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Library University Archives<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119012\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-119012\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/manoa-minerbi-luciano-headshot-2-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Luciano Minerbi\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-119012\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/manoa-minerbi-luciano-headshot-2-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/manoa-minerbi-luciano-headshot-2-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/manoa-minerbi-luciano-headshot-2.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-119012\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo courtesy: Department of Urban and Regional Planning)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Minerbi is sharing his collegial work generated with colleagues, students and community partners with the intent to bring forth knowledge on culturally appropriate place-based management to learn &ldquo;where we come from, where we are and where we are going,&rdquo; linking history to current planning.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As an ancient Latin once said, &lsquo;There\u2019s no truth without memory,&rsquo;&rdquo; said Minerbi.&ldquo;There is no such a thing as a &lsquo;dated&rsquo; report because what is useful is to learn the context in which it was created. With that knowledge we are in a position to better face changing circumstances by engaging in a planning approach that is anticipatory problem solving.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<h2>The Luciano Minerbi Collection<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lucianominerbicollection.weebly.com\/about.html\">The Luciano Minerbi Collection<\/a> includes his works in sustainable island development in urban and rural settings, land readjustment, watershed and land management, cultural impact assessments, heritage landscape analysis, community planning and place-based management.<\/p>\n<p>As a former <abbr>DURP<\/abbr> student, Archivist for University Records <strong>Helen Wong Smith<\/strong> recognized the value of Minerbi\u2019s papers and invited him to make the donation to University Archives. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This collection will provide a valuable resource on urban planning in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and give students and researchers insight into the career and working style of one of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s noted professionals,&rdquo; said University Librarian <strong>Clem Guthro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The collection to date consists of 60 linear feet of unique posters and exhibits which were used to showcase data collection and report findings to the community, as well as correlating maps to past projects and records documenting his advocacy for local communities, completed cultural assessments and course-related practicum. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This collection will provide a valuable resource on urban planning in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><br \/>\n<br \/>&#8212;Clem Guthro, University Librarian<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of Minerbi\u2019s published and co-authored work includes topics on tourism, coastal zones, indigenous people and land use planning. This work incorporates aspects of oral histories, indigenous populations, community and indigenous knowledge and protocols.<\/p>\n<p>Notable projects that are available include the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Environmental Risk Ranking Project, P\u0101p\u014dhaku Dunes Cultural and Natural Resource Preservation Plan, Cultural Advocacy Network Development and much more. One can also find a wide range of area maps from projects conducted by Minerbi and his students, such as <span aria-label=\"Koolaupoko,\">Ko&#699;olaupoko,<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Kahaluu\">Kahalu&#699;u<\/span>, <span aria-label=\"Kau,\">Ka&#699;&#363;,<\/span> Puna, <span aria-label=\"Waipio,\">Waipi&#699;o<\/span> Valley, <span aria-label=\"Hookena,\">Ho&#699;okena<\/span> and Hanalei.<\/p>\n<h2>More on Minerbi<\/h2>\n<p>Minerbi has earned numerous university and community service awards and local planning recognitions for excellence in curriculum and course development and helping preserve <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s culture and environment. Even after retirement, Minerbi remains highly engaged with the university and community.
