The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> Cancer Center<\/a> has entered its final construction phase under budget, leaving room to build an extension.<\/p>\n

As reported recently by Pacific Business News<\/em><\/a>, the original construction contract budgeted $119 million for the center but ended up costing $103 million.<\/p>\n

The new 150,000 square-foot facility will be comprised of two buildings connected by an open-air lobby and central staircase. Materials will include a glass and steel exterior with warm interior finishes including tile, wood and glass.<\/p>\n

A highlight will be a large two-story space on the ground level for hosting community and educational events. Additional meeting and conference rooms will be scattered throughout to encourage collaboration and conversation between colleagues.<\/p>\n

The building also features many environmentally-friendly and sustainable features and is scheduled to open in February 2013.<\/p>\n
