The publications being digitized are the <em>Pacific Commercial Advertiser<\/em> (1856-1921) and the <em>Honolulu Star-Bulletin<\/em> (1917-1922).<\/p>\n<p>Continuing into the third phase of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Digital Newspaper Project, the library will digitize about 100,000 English-language newspaper pages in the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>On the freely accessible Chronicling America website, users can browse and search digitized American newspapers and read essays about them. In a 20-year period, the <a href=\"http:\/\/loc.gov\/ndnp\/index.html\">National Digital Newspaper Program<\/a> will digitize historically significant newspapers from all U.S. states and territories published between 1836 and 1922.<\/p>\n<p>The National Digital Newspaper Program is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/index.html\">Library of Congress<\/a>.
