And <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa<\/a>\u2019s undergraduate student government is drumming up student support for the bills.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/asuhmanoa.wixsite.com\/asuh\">Associated Students of the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/a> (<abbr>AS糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>) hosted a testimony writing session at <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Campus Center on Thursday, February 6. They provided more than 30 students in attendance with information and guidance on crafting messages for lawmakers in support of bills which back additional mental healthcare services on campus and lower tuition costs for qualified students. <abbr>AS糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> President <strong>Landon Li<\/strong> said the student government group has held testimony writing sessions in the past, but this session provided a different focus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_110805\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-110805\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/manoa-asuh-testimony-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Two A S U H members pose\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-110805\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/manoa-asuh-testimony-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/manoa-asuh-testimony-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/manoa-asuh-testimony-1-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/manoa-asuh-testimony-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-110805\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Landon Li and <abbr>AS糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> Senator Micah Leval<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;I believe they were on different issues, some were just general education testimony. But this time, we\u2019re doing kind of a targeted approach where we want to not only educate about the testimony writing process, but also about what legislative priorities we would like students to testify on,&rdquo; Li said.<\/p>\n<p>Bills being discussed call for appropriating funds for additional psychiatrist, psychologist and counselor positions across the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. The International Accreditation of Counseling Services recommends a ratio of one mental health professional for every 1,000&#8211;1,500 students. <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa needs at least five more positions to meet the criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Other bills seek to expand the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Promise program, which currently assists approximately 1,400 community college students, who qualify for resident tuition, annually by providing the &ldquo;last dollar&rdquo; needed to cover education costs.
