He has levels of high levels of fluency in Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish and is comfortable speaking other languages. The flagship programs of <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa attracted Jenkins to campus. <abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Chinese Language Flagship Center Director <strong>Madeline Spring<\/strong> describes him as an &ldquo;unusually talented individual.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_94068\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94068\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-LLL-anthony-jenkins.jpg\" alt=\"Anthony Jenkins\" width=\"250\" height=\"375\" class=\"size-full wp-image-94068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-LLL-anthony-jenkins.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-LLL-anthony-jenkins-87x130.jpg 87w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-LLL-anthony-jenkins-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-94068\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anthony Jenkins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jenkins received a coveted <a href=\"https:\/\/borenawards.org\/language-flagship\">Chinese Flagship Boren scholarship<\/a>, which is funding his study at Nanjing University for an academic semester in fall 2019, as well as the upcoming internship semester. By doing so, he not only fulfills the capstone requirement of the Flagship Center, but also one of his dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Courses such as the history of Taiwan and Inner Mongolia, composition and media studies expanded his knowledge. But it is the relationships that he has forged that expand his love for the Chinese language, culture and people. Jenkins participated in a community service event recently to help ring in the New Year. Because the event took place in a rural area, having a foreigner involved, especially an American, resulted in Jenkins being in both <a href=\"https:\/\/baijiahao.\/s?id=1654600775846894730\">print<\/a> and television news.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related <em><abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr> News<\/em> story:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2019\/04\/04\/linguistics-student-receives-scholarship\/\">Chinese Flagship student receives scholarship to study in China<\/a>, April 4, 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jenkins said, &ldquo;There are other English speakers in my cohort who at times converse in English outside of class, but I have made it my personal rule that I will not speak in English for the duration of my time here in China.
