Out Loud in the Library! at Windward Community College<\/a> presents five writers from Bamboo Ridge<\/em><\/a> on Thursday, November 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Hale Laʻakea<\/span><\/a> Library. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Writers Sue Cowing, Lanning Lee<\/strong>, Marion Lyman-Mersereau, Eric Paul Shaffer<\/strong> and A.B.<\/abbr> Ulep will be reading their works from the most recent issue of Bamboo Ridge<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Out Loud in the Library! is a literary and music event celebrating the rich intersection of words and music by local artists, and is meant to inspire and encourage students to find their own creative voice through writing, reading, poetry, music, spoken word and visual arts.<\/p>\n

Sue Cowing<\/strong>
\nCowing lives in Honolulu where she writes poetry and fiction and survives floods. Her works include You Will Call Me Drog<\/em>, Fire in the Sea<\/em> and My Dog has Fleas<\/em>, a children\u2019s poetry book with local slang.<\/p>\n

Lanning Lee<\/strong>
\nLee, a graduate from the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a>, has been writing since 1983. He is the author of 155 Shakespearean Love Sonnets<\/em>, 866 Love Haiku<\/em> and Hours of Operation: Life Sketches from the Archipelago<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Marion Lyman-Mersereau<\/strong>
\nLyman-Mersereau co-authored four volumes entitled Character Education<\/em>. Her book, Eddie Wen\u2019 Go – The Story of the Upside Down Canoe<\/em>, was inspired by her experience as a crew member when Hokuleʻa<\/span> capsized in 1978. The story was later adapted into a play that was produced by Hawaii Theater Center in 2014.<\/p>\n

Eric Paul Shaffer<\/strong>
\nShaffer is the author of seven books of poetry, including Even Further West<\/em> (2018) and A Million-Dollar Bill<\/em> (2016). More than 500 of his poems have been published in 12 countries. He teaches composition, literature and creative writing at Honolulu Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A.B.<\/abbr> Ulep<\/strong>
\nUlep lives and writes on Oʻahu<\/span>. His poetry can be found in TAYO Literary Magazine<\/em>, Rambutan Literary<\/em> and Stone Pacific Zine<\/em>. He is an MFA<\/abbr> candidate at Pacific Lutheran University’s Rainier Writing Workshop.<\/p>\n
