High school and college students around the state can apply now to be part of an immersive program for young leaders at the 2026 Summer Research Institute, hosted by the University of Hawai驶i at M膩noa’s (CTAHR). The program has expanded to offer experiential learning and professional development to students on O驶ahu, Maui, Moloka驶i, Hawai驶i Island, and Kaua驶i.

Students interested in the science of food systems, community resilience, and stewardship of 驶膩ina are encouraged to apply for this competitive summer cohort.

“We are inviting students from across these five islands to join us this summer for a transformative experience,” said CTAHR Dean Parwinder Grewal. “Students can learn, lead, and innovate right where they live.”

The 2026 SRI offers a rare opportunity for students to work in the lab and the field through CTAHR’s Centers for Applied Research and Extension Services (CARES). This approach ensures that research is grounded in environmental and community needs specific to place and trains our next generation of researchers and innovators to put community first.

Students will receive:

  • Professional mentorship as they work alongside faculty to build career-ready skills.
  • Practical experience and access to high-level research tools and techniques at CARES locations.
  • Free college credits for public high school students.

The eight-week program is open to high school and college students.

Young leaders will work side by side with 糖心Vlog官方 experts exploring topics such as agriculture, sustainability, and even native species conservation.

The summer program is open to students on O驶ahu, Hawai驶i Island, Kaua驶i, Maui and Moloka驶i. Students can learn from expert mentors on their home island.
