Jerrold Michael

Jerrold Michael, a retired professor and former dean of the ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ School of Public Health (now the ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ ), passed away in the Washington, D.C., area on July 25. He was 90 years old.

Michael led ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ public health for two decades, spending a total of 25 years at the university beginning in 1971. Before coming to ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹, he was a rear admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps and was the nation’s youngest USPHS assistant surgeon general.

“Dean Jerrold Michael was a scholar and a mentor to many of us in public health,” said Satoru Izutsu, emeritus professor at the ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ (JABSOM). “His vision of a peaceful world through public health and its activities was unwavering.”
