In reply to Randy. Randy: "Kauhale" is a compound of houses that, in traditional Hawaiian times, the extended family lived in. There were separate buildings for separate functions. I was also trying to follow her train of thought with her use of the term "kauhale" but found it difficult. I think I understand what she was attempting to say but it was not made very clear.

I’m really interested in this word she’s using, I’m trying to look it up but it doesn’t quite seem to make sense to me, she talks about “Building Kauhale (sp?)” it’s the kauhale I can’t quite get. Am I spelling it right or is it another word that she’s saying? Seems like quite a beautiful concept.
