People have a misconception that keeping the sugarcane business here will keep the high rises, and over development from happening. But if it is saving the land while making us sick ,is it worth it? And who is it saving the land for ? Not for the good of the people. If they care about the people of Maui, they would have switched to nonburning harvesting decades ago. They said it wasn’t cost effective. Meanwhile there’s all that land.not to mention water rights they are sitting on. And for what? My opinion, people who support cane business are supporting those men who put the queen in jail. Cane burning is in no way part of our culture. It’s part of genocide.
