It was my first philosophy class (aside from an intro class) and I knew of Dr. Ames’ reputation as a brilliant scholar. This would ordinarily make one feel intimidated, but Dr. Ames’ manner was such that I felt comfortable and enjoyed the class immensely. He was very personable and often quite humorous. I learned so much, had so much fun, and studying Confucianism made me look at life differently. He is an amazing teacher, scholar, and all-around nice guy! Congratulations on this latest honor, Dr. Ames!
