The intern will also learn basic circulation and collection maintenance practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Library Basics &amp; Maintenance (i.e. shelving, item inspection, training, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection Development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outreach\/Implementation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Library\/Collection Description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hilo Public Library serves as the regional branch for the Island of Hawai\u02bbi. Our library is the largest on the island and opened on January 20, 1951. The Naha, one of two historic stones located in front of the library, is believed to be what King Kamehameha lifted to affirm the prophecy that he would united the Hawaiian Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Required Qualifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>LIS 601 Introduction to Reference &amp; Information Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Desired Qualifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ability to work with diverse patrons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic knowledge of library services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to adapt to changing situations in the work environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Weekly Schedule<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The weekly schedule must fall within the operating hours of Hilo Public Library:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesday 11am-7pm<br>Wednesday 11am-7pm<br>Thursday 9am-4pm<br>Friday 11am-4pm<br>Saturday 9am-4pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regular hours are expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Goals and Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a unique opportunity to learn important aspects of professional librarianship in a large public library. The focus will be on reference and collection management skills applied in hands-on situations. The intern will learn more about the types of materials available and populations served in a large regional branch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Evaluation Methods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Periodic formal and informal evaluations and discussions.
