Dr. Wertheimer gave a paper at the Association for Asian American Studies 2023 conference in Long Beach, California. His paper, \u201cThe Issei Role in Fostering a Prewar Nisei Leadership: The Fushimi Memorial Scholarship Society in Nikkei Hawai\u02bbi\u201d explores the prewar Japanese American association that established the Fushimi Memorial Scholarship Society for Nisei to study at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½M, created pioneering Japanese language textbooks. The society also operated a Japanese library at the Library of Hawai’i, which later became the Hawai’i State Library.
