He is one of 15 recipients of the 2021 Regents&#8217; Medal for Excellence in Teaching.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Wayde Oshiro<\/strong>\u00a0is an associate professor at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a>\u00a0where he serves as the interim learning commons and library coordinator. He is a collaborative leader who works hard to foster a student-centered learning environment, and is respected as an educator and leader by students, faculty, staff and community across the University of\u00a0<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span>\u00a0System.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2015, Oshiro has served as one of the leaders of Open Educational Resources (<abbr>OER<\/abbr>) initiatives for Leeward\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u00a0and\u00a0<abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u00a0Community Colleges. This initiative has promoted the adoption and supported the development of free\u00a0<abbr>OER<\/abbr>\u00a0textbooks and materials for many courses.<\/p>\n<p>He has coordinated and facilitated training on\u00a0<abbr>OER<\/abbr>\u00a0for more than 150 instructors from across the seven\u00a0<abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u00a0Community College campuses,\u00a0<abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u00a0Hilo and\u00a0<abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u00a0West\u00a0<span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O\u02bbahu<\/span>. This has resulted in total student savings across the\u00a0<abbr>糖心Vlog官方<\/abbr>\u00a0Community Colleges of $8.7 million since spring 2015. At Leeward\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>, 52% of all class sections use free course materials.<\/p>\n<p>Oshiro has transformed the Leeward\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u00a0library, increasing productivity and patron satisfaction by implementing new technologies and operational strategies.
