{"id":14125,"date":"2025-03-06T11:12:04","date_gmt":"2025-03-06T21:12:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?p=14125"},"modified":"2025-04-14T15:58:16","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T01:58:16","slug":"u-s-visa-interview-waiver-eligibility-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?p=14125","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Visa Interview Waiver Eligibility Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On February 18, 2025\u00a0 the Department of State announced an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/News\/visas-news\/interview-waiver-update-feb-18-2025.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interview Waiver Update<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that changes the eligibility requirements for nonimmigrant visa applicants who may qualify for an in-person visa interview waiver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The updated policy states that nonimmigrant visa applicants are eligible for interview waiver if they are renewing a visa in the same category and if that visa expired less than 12 months prior to the new visa application.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be eligible for an interview waiver, applicants must also:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">apply in their country of nationality or residence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have never been refused a visa (unless such refusal was overcome or waived); and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have no apparent or potential ineligibility.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consular officers may still require in-person interviews on a case-by-case basis or because of local conditions.
