Reciprocity means the U.S. government sets visa validity and fees based on what a student's home country provides to U.S. citizens seeking similar visas. As a result of this change, many F (student) and J (exchange visitor) visas may now be limited to a <\/span><b>three-month validity and a single entry<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Who is affected?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your visa was issued <\/span><b>before July 8, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it remains valid for the number of entries and duration originally printed on the visa.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, if you apply for a <\/span><b>new visa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after this date, it will likely be subject to the new limitations. This means you may need to apply for a new visa each time you leave and wish to re-enter the U.S.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only exception is for short trips of less than 30 days to <\/span><b>Canada or Mexico<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where you may be eligible for <\/span><b>automatic visa revalidation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is a limited benefit and does not apply to all students or situations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What to Remember:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This change <\/span><b>does not affect your immigration status or your duration of stay<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> within the U.S. It only impacts your international travel plans. Remember, a visa is a travel document needed to enter the U.S.; your Form I-20 or DS-2019 is your record of legal status while you're in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Check the official source:\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This change applies to foreign nationals from approximately 50 countries, including but not limited to:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Afghanistan \u2022 Angola \u2022 Benin \u2022 Bhutan \u2022 Burkina Faso \u2022 Burma (Myanmar) \u2022 Burundi \u2022 Cambodia \u2022 Cameroon \u2022 Chad \u2022 China (O visas only) \u2022 Cote d'Ivoire \u2022 Democratic Republic of Congo \u2022 Equatorial Guinea \u2022 Ethiopia \u2022 Ghana \u2022 Haiti \u2022 Iran \u2022 Kyrgyzstan \u2022 Laos \u2022 Libya \u2022 Malawi \u2022 Nigeria \u2022 Somalia \u2022 Sudan \u2022 Syria \u2022 Tanzania \u2022 Togo \u2022 Uganda \u2022 Venezuela \u2022 Yemen \u2022 Zambia \u2022 Zimbabwe<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Please note:<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Countries such as Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, and others are also subject to full entry bans under the June 2025 Travel Ban.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other countries face partial bans affecting specific visa categories.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What you need to do:\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We strongly advise students to check the official <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Visa Reciprocity Tables<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for specific details related to your country.
