The Environmental, Health and Safety Office (EHSO), Environmental Compliance Program (ECP) has posted the University of Hawaii at Manoa Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP)<\/a> on its website and is requesting input from the University community and other stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
The SWMP is a requirement of the University’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit Coverage (HI22KG716).<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
The Hawaii Department of Health, Clean Water Branch, administers the NPDES program. The NPDES program is a regulatory mechanism to control water pollution through the issuance of permits. The purpose of issuing an NPDES permit is to implement Federal NPDES regulations and State NPDES rules to help protect human health and the environment.\u00a0 An NPDES permit imposes restrictions and requirements on discharges of pollutants from sites\/facilities. Permittees (entities that have NPDES permit coverage) are legally obligated to comply with the requirements specified in the issued permit and their SWMP.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Persons wishing to provide input on the SWMP are encouraged to email comments to Tavia Oshiro, the ECP Program Manager, at\u00a0tavias@hawaii.edu<\/a>. Comments will be compiled and posted on the ECP website annually. The SWMP will be updated accordingly, annually, and posted to the ECP website.<\/span><\/div>\n
