  {"id":3224,"date":"2020-03-29T06:56:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-29T06:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/?p=3224"},"modified":"2020-08-30T05:18:11","modified_gmt":"2020-08-30T05:18:11","slug":"cis-720-seminar-lets-go-to-the-archives-using-historical-methods-for-policy-and-organizational-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/cis\/cis-720-seminar-lets-go-to-the-archives-using-historical-methods-for-policy-and-organizational-research\/","title":{"rendered":"CIS 720 Seminar \u2013 Let\u2019s Go to the Archives!\u00a0 Using Historical Methods for Policy and Organizational Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>Dear&nbsp;<span id=\"m_6509378439021897308:447.1\">CIS<\/span> Students and Colleagues, join us this Monday from 4:30-5:30pm for a talk by Colin Moore.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This talk will be a wide-ranging look at how non-historians can use historical methods and data.&nbsp; I&#8217;ll bring in a bunch of examples from my research, and also talk about my own journey in academia.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Title:<\/b>&nbsp; Let\u2019s Go to the Archives!&nbsp; Using Historical Methods for Policy and Organizational Research<\/p>\n<p><b>Abstract:<\/b>&nbsp;&nbsp;This talk will review the advantages and challenges of using historical methods to research public policy problems and organizational development.&nbsp; Drawing from a diverse array of studies ranging from antebellum anti-slavery campaigns to the contemporary Veterans Health Administration, I will explain how non-historians can benefit from the tools and methods used to conduct historical research.<\/p>\n<p><b>Bio:<\/b>&nbsp;Colin Moore is Chair of the School of Communications, Director of the Public Policy Center, and Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Hawai\u2018i at&nbsp;<span id=\"m_6509378439021897308:447.2\">Manoa<\/span>. Prior to joining the faculty at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½, he served as a research fellow at Yale University\u2019s Center for the Study of American Politics and as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Fellow in Health Policy Research at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his&nbsp;<span id=\"m_6509378439021897308:447.3\">Ph<\/span>.D. from the Department of Government at Harvard University.&nbsp; Moore&#8217;s scholarship focuses on American political development, public bureaucracies, health policy, and the historical analysis of institutional change. His research has appeared in the&nbsp;<i>American Political Science Review,<\/i>&nbsp;<i>Perspectives on Politics<\/i>, and&nbsp;<i>Studies in American Political Development<\/i>, among other venues.
